Pompeii Ruins, a unique heritage in the world
Posted on 06/29/2017

Pompeii Ruins represent a great testimony to our archaeological heritage as well as one of the most visited sites in Italy, the third after the Colosseum and the Pantheon.
The town has ancient origins, which are traced back to the Osci, who had settled in a village formed after a lava flow near the river Sarno. The village was subsequently conquered by the Romans, which made it one of the most flourishing shopping centers on the coast. The Vesuvius eruption buried Pompeii in 79 BC covering it for three meters. Only in 1748 began the excavation phase, all by Carlo III of Bourbon. The first objects found were coins, jewels, and skeletons of buildings. Visiting Pompeii is an avoidable stop if you are in the area, for its scenic scenery, rich of history.
Among the most important buildings in Pompeii, the most famous is Villa dei Misteri. The building dates back to the second century B.C. and it takes its name from the frescoes in the triclinium with natural size figures. The painting should feature a mime show or preparations for a wedding, about the style we can say that it has rustic styles such as the oven, kitchens and verandas.
Villa dei Misteri is not the only villa in the site, in fact among the most famous we have Villa Diomede. It takes its name from the tomb that you can find inside, that belonged to Marcus Arrius Diomedes, and its most important feature is having a triclinium with sea view.
Another important building is Villa Imperiale, a large structure made up of a long arcade full of newsagents and adored with wonderful paintings of frescoes that appear to belong to the third and fourth style.
Villa Giulia Felice, near Porta Sarno, has a double atrium, boasts an imposing altar dedicated to Isis and features a waterfall system in the garden.
In short these are just some of the main wonders of the Pompeii Ruins, as well as an indispensable step if you are in the area. If you have not visited them yet, what are you waiting for?! Check out the timetables and follow the route!
